We’ve been big fans of David Airey for some time. Since we’re a company that tests logos and designs with consumers for a living, we have probably seen and reviewed as many logos as David has. So, as fans, when his book, Logo Design Love: A Guide To Creating Iconic Brand Identities, we were anxious to read this. Of course, the book came out late last year and we’ve just gotten around to reading it.
Well, it was worth the wait. David has nailed it in many ways on the logo design front. He covers great logo design, design theory and probably even more important, how to truly be a designer and practice the craft.
Because we work with designers all the time, we also see the complete pros and those that pose. The difference is night and day. Real pros come to us to have their designs evaluated by target audiences. They never once let ego in the way. Their goal is the same for their clients: meeting their objectives, not the designer’s objective. And in that light, they make not only better designs, but create logos that speak to their target audience because they’ve enveloped them into the design process.
The discussions David takes on for what makes a design work, how to work with clients and the various design tips are worth the price of the book. But it’s David’s mastery of the pursuit of logo design perfection that we most enjoy. A great read too.
If you’re interested in creating better logos, with greater outcomes other than the logo “looks good”, then this book is for you!
